Sonnet 356 (Crestfallen)

That love we knew before too sadly died
A wake where once its fullest tide did thrill
Now left so still until each drop has dried
And what is left is only a patch that sorrow fill.

Except those tears that flee this broken heart
The life that left now but crested to a tear
Where joy recedes for sorrow's driest part
A barren world that once love's gales did rear.

The ebb and flow and salty taste are gone
The giddy lure to love's most boundless shore
A captain's ship the stars once looked upon
But grounded now a trip, once grand, no more.

And barren all around that I can see
And crestfallen am I you're swept from me.
