Enough that Life Gives

I see too few songbirds in this time of year
Maybe because there's too little sunshine
Instead of their melodies emptiness hear
Like what I feel knowing you are not mine.

Too many days can't seem to shake the cold
Where the warmth should finally feel
Like I shudder knowing you I cannot hold
And the warmth my misery so unfairly steal.

And the flowers are fighting to fully bloom
And too many trees, even now, still bare
Like love's blossoms not finding, in my heart, room
How much worse this spring if you're not there.

What does it portend when what we wish denied
And our season of renewal struggles to live?
At least if I knew you would be at my side
This is enough that life, to me, could give.
