Better Angel

I saw this woman and to her spirit did succumb

She made me believe that my heart was good

And whatever problems I could still overcome

Because the goodness of my heart understood.

Now I hear that she is troubled by her own strife

And this for one so sweet cannot be

Not for one that showed me purpose in life

Now I am the one that her goodness can see.

We are far apart, distance is in our way

And maybe our paths will no longer meet

But I know a woman from such beauty cannot stray

That no troubles or sadness can ever defeat.

And as the Rose her beauty lets the world know

That the rough winds her petals can shake and fall

When the next spring comes again will grow

And to the world again her splendor will call.

And as the Robin het melody sweetly sings

Though the winter ushers it coldly away

Soon the next season her song still brings

For such music from the world can never stray.

So, I know that no darkness from her light can lure

For her radiance in this place is too strong

And it could never snuff out a light so pure

But to the better angels of our world belong.
