Waiting at Heaven’s Door
It is not that my love is leaving only that the daylight wanes
Not that my heart grows cold but Winter near
It is not that my life feels like the scattered leaves of Summer’s remains
It is not the final turn of this Earth I fear.
It is not that I see you in my dreams but the coming of the night
Not that I will not awake to see you but the rising morn
Not that everywhere your absence appears but the coming light
It is not that no more from my life this day is drawn.
It is not because my heart broken but everywhere life still lives
And not that I can’t go on for the hours have not yet expired
It is not that I despair because life no more your love gives
That there’s no more hope for the one I most desired.
No, I do not fear that I must face Earth’s final turn
Or pine with the pain that the love I had is no more
For my time is only brief here and that what I most yearn
Will only matter if I find you waiting at Heaven’s door.
