Your Lasting Light
Soon I will see you like my eyes opening to the sun
In the place where it so often does shine
But you will be the brightest one
And the sun could never call mine.
Yet, like the sun you may be too hot to touch
And its warmth only the seasons will give
So my feelings do not compare as much
As what this world decides it will give.
But to at least see you will have to do
Your light will still be everlasting
And all I need is to get close to you
For your love I will then be tasting.
And then when you leave behind your light
At least it briefly touched my heart
So when you again leave my sight
No darkness ever kept us apart.
