Sonnet 339 (Time's Hand)

And soon the steely hand of Time will come
To coldly grasp the one who makes life sweet
Now like a winter tree whose leaves succumb
My life a barren place where once complete.

The honeyed melodies that birds once taught
Will strike the chords of loneliness in me
The blissful warmth the morning sun once brought
May still rise high but darkness all I'll see.

Where once we lay before the ocean's shore
And as we kissed the waves did gently sigh
These fawning waves will cry when you’re no more
Their ebbs and flows my heart did feel, too, die.

And once Time's hand arrives to take you hold
What’s left a place that leaves me only cold.
